As a simple guide; on average most clients attending for therapy/counselling (approximately 80% of such clients) work with me for between 6 and 12 sessions. However in certain circumstances this may be less, or more. In any case please do not enter therapy if you expect “a miracle”. It is very important that you give yourself a fair chance to change. Also you will be provided with simple “homework”, which you must practice as an integral part of your therapy. Be assured that as a team I am at all times committed to applying my knowledge and experience to helping you bring about change in a safe and permanent way.

This is completely dependent upon the individual's personal objectives and usually operate on a flexible basis over the required period of time.

The office is open for correspondence 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday (exc. bank holidays). The office is not open weekends, any messages received after 6pm Friday will be treated as having been received the following working day. If I am in session with a client please leave a message with day time and evening contact numbers and I will get back to you within 24 hrs. As a fulltime practice we offer a comprehensive choice of appointment times throughout the week, including mornings, afternoons and evenings. Please contact us to arrange an appointment suitable for you.

This one-off session is designed for those who:

  • Are highly motivated
  • No longer getting any “enjoyment” from smoking
  • Not dealing with recent trauma or bereavement
  • Not in an exceptionally stressed place in their lives and therefore not emotionally dependent on smoking

Please call to discuss: (01793) 873451

Most of my day to day work is done with individuals who are experiencing emotional issues that they wish to cope with or resolve. If you are a smoker and can identify with the need to smoke to cope with stress, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings it is likely that your mind will continue to choose to smoke as a form of coping mechanism until underlying causes are identified and dealt with. In these circumstances I would advise separating the pursuit of giving up smoking from the challenge of resolving these issues. A course of therapy can often strengthen the individual in a way that enables them to later approach giving up smoking in a more proactive and relaxed manner.

Sessions usually have a gap of 3 days (min) and 14 days (max) between them. Most clients while working with me see me on a weekly basis. A short gap is often desirable in which the client assimilates the work done in the previous session or carries out some “homework”. Sessions with too long a gap can result in the loss of momentum and motivation.

Yes: Confidentiality will be maintained in all but the most exceptional circumstances. These can only include: legal action (criminal or civil court cases where a court order is made demanding disclosure - includes coroners courts) and where there is good cause to believe that not to disclose would cause danger of serious harm to others. Most standards of confidentiality applied in professional contexts are based on the Common Law concept of confidentiality where the duty to keep confidence is measured against the concept of "greater good". The sharing of anonymous case histories with supervisors and peer-support groups is not a breach of professional confidentiality. The sharing of open case histories with supervisors and any referring NHS medical practitioner is also not a breach

We do have a fair and open policy that respects the therapist as a professional and emphasises the responsibility of the client to attend sessions. Cancellation or rearrangement of an appointment, for whatever reason, including illness or unavoidable events, with less than 48 hours/2 working days notice will result in the charging of a fee equal to 50% (min. £25) of the cost of the session. Telephone messages left outside of office hours; 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday are deemed to have been received at the time that the office is next open.  Working days exclude weekends, bank holidays and any therapist leave days previously advised to the client.
